Extending your trip

Request trip extensions through the app, manage host approvals, handle payment updates, and avoid late return penalties with proper timing.

Sometimes plans take an unexpected turn and that's okay. With Ridee, extending your trip is quick, transparent and fully managed within the app. Whether you need a few extra hours or several more days, here's how to make sure your trip continues smoothly and stays protected under Ridee's policies.

Requesting a trip extension

You can extend your trip at any time before your scheduled return time, provided your host approves the request.

To request an extension:

  1. Open the Ridee app or log in on the Ridee website
  2. Go to My Trips and select your active trip
  3. Tap Extend Trip
  4. Choose your new return date and time
  5. Review the updated total cost before submitting your request

Once sent, your host will receive a notification to review and approve the extension. Most hosts respond within minutes, ensuring you can continue your trip without interruptions.

Tip: Always request your extension early, ideally a few hours before your original return time to avoid late fees or potential penalties.

Host approval and payment updates

All trip extensions require host approval. Once your host accepts:

  • Your new trip duration is automatically updated in the Ridee system
  • Your total cost adjusts to reflect the additional time
  • Payment for the extra period is processed automatically using your saved payment method

If your host declines or doesn't respond before your scheduled return:

  • You must return the car at the original agreed time
  • Failure to do so may result in late return fees or policy violations

What if your host doesn't respond in time?

If your host hasn't approved your extension request by your original return time:

  • Return the vehicle on schedule to avoid additional charges
  • If you still need the car, submit a new booking request for the same or another vehicle once your current trip closes

Note: For your protection, never keep the car beyond your scheduled time without an approved extension. Doing so may void Ridee coverage and result in penalties.

Changing your mind after requesting an extension

If you decide not to extend after submitting a request:

  • You can cancel your extension request anytime before the host approves it
  • Once the host accepts and payment is processed, the updated trip terms take effect
  • Standard refund and cancellation rules then apply for any further changes

Extending during an active trip

You can only extend a trip that is currently active and not yet past its scheduled return time.

To ensure seamless coverage and avoid being marked late:

  • Submit your extension before the current trip ends
  • Wait for confirmation before continuing to use the vehicle

If your host doesn't approve in time:

  • Return the car as originally planned
  • Contact Ridee Support if you experience a delay or need assistance rebooking

After your trip has ended

Once your trip officially ends in the system:

  • Extensions are no longer possible
  • You'll need to create a new booking (with the same host or another one) if you still need a car

Ridee makes rebooking simple, just tap Book Again from your Trip History to schedule another rental in seconds.

Tips for smooth extensions

To keep your trip hassle-free and your account in good standing:

  • Always request extensions through the Ridee app, not by private message
  • Give your host as much notice as possible
  • Review your host's rate adjustments or late return policy before confirming
  • Make sure your payment method has sufficient funds for any added time

Emergencies and unexpected delays

If an emergency prevents you from returning on time (for example, a breakdown, accident, or medical issue):

  • Contact your host immediately through the app
  • Then reach out to Ridee Support to report the situation

Our 24/7 team will assist you with next steps, including potential extensions, roadside help or trip adjustments.
