Fuel, charging and return condition
Guidelines for refueling, recharging and returning your Ridee vehicle in proper condition
Returning your vehicle in the right condition is an essential part of being a responsible Ridee guest. It ensures a smooth handover, protects your rating and keeps the Ridee community running fairly for everyone. Here's what to know about refueling, charging and maintaining the car's condition before you return it.
Check your host's return requirements
Each host may have slightly different return expectations, which are shown in your trip details. Before your trip ends:
- Review your host's notes under Trip Details → Return Instructions
- Confirm whether you need to refuel, recharge or return the car as received
- Check if the host expects the vehicle to be washed or simply tidy and clean
Tip: Communicate early if you're unsure about any return expectations. Clear communication avoids misunderstandings later.
Fuel-powered vehicles
If your vehicle uses petrol or diesel:
- Refill the tank to the same level it was at pickup, unless your host specifies otherwise
- Keep your fuel receipt as proof of refueling if needed
- Avoid overfilling or using the wrong fuel type. This may cause damage and additional charges
If the car is returned with less fuel than required, the host may charge a refueling fee based on Ridee's policy.
Electric or hybrid vehicles
For electric or plug-in hybrid vehicles:
- Recharge the battery to the same level as at pickup
- Use approved charging stations to avoid damage or overuse fees
- Take a photo of the dashboard showing the final battery level before handing over the vehicle
If your trip ends with a lower charge level than agreed, your host may apply a charging fee to cover the difference.
Cleanliness and interior condition
Please return the car in reasonably clean condition:
- Remove all personal belongings and trash
- Wipe up any spills and ensure the car smells fresh
- Avoid smoking, vaping or transporting pets if your host's policy prohibits it
Important: Excessive dirt, stains, pet hair or odors may result in a cleaning fee or affect your guest rating.
Exterior condition and inspection
Before returning the car:
- Do a quick walk-around inspection to confirm there are no new dents, scratches or damage
- Take clear photos through the Ridee app at return to document the vehicle's condition
- Hand over any accessories or extras (keys, chargers, child seats, etc.) that came with the vehicle
This simple step protects you from potential disputes after your trip.
If you can't refuel or recharge before return
If you're short on time or unable to refuel/recharge:
- Inform your host in advance through the app
- Return the car as agreed and expect a refueling or charging adjustment fee
Ridee automatically tracks and applies these fees according to policy, so both you and your host stay protected.
Keeping your guest rating strong
A smooth return experience reflects well on you and helps maintain your guest privileges.
To keep your rating high:
- Follow your host's return instructions carefully
- Return the vehicle on time and in the same condition you received it
- Report any issues or damage immediately instead of waiting until after the trip
