Handling tolls, tickets & traffic violations
Learn how tolls, parking tickets and traffic violations are handled during your Ridee trip
Tolls and traffic rules vary by location, but every guest is responsible for following local regulations and covering any tolls, fines or violations that occur during their trip. Understanding how these are handled helps you avoid unexpected charges and maintain a clean driving record on Ridee.
Paying tolls during your trip
If your trip route includes toll roads, bridges or express lanes:
- Always check in advance if tolls apply along your route
- Some vehicles come with electronic toll devices (e.g., E-ZPass, SunPass or local equivalents)
- If a toll device is provided, your host may charge you for any tolls incurred after the trip ends
- If the car doesn't include one, pay tolls manually at each point or use approved mobile apps for payment
Tip: Always confirm toll instructions with your host before pickup to avoid confusion or unpaid fees later.
Responsibility for tolls and fines
As the guest and driver, you're responsible for:
- All tolls, tickets and traffic violations incurred during your trip period
- Any speeding, parking or red-light violations detected by cameras or issued by authorities
- Administrative fees Ridee or your host may apply for processing citations received after your trip
These fees are automatically billed to your Ridee account once verified.
If you receive a ticket during your trip
If you're stopped or find a citation on the vehicle:
- Pay the fine immediately if possible, following the instructions on the ticket
- Take a clear photo of the ticket and receipt (if paid) for your records
- Notify your host through the app and upload the photo in your trip chat
If you can't pay on the spot, your host may receive the notice later and can forward it to Ridee for payment processing.
Tickets or violations received after your trip
Sometimes authorities send tickets days or weeks later. In such cases:
- Your host will submit the official notice to Ridee
- Ridee verifies the time, location and license plate details
- The corresponding fine amount plus processing fee will be charged to your account
You'll always receive a notification and receipt for any such charge.
Parking violations and towing
If the vehicle is towed or immobilized during your trip:
- Contact the towing authority or location immediately to resolve the issue
- Pay any applicable release fees, fines or penalties
- Inform your host and Ridee Support right away, providing documentation of payment and location details
Failure to report or resolve towing issues may result in additional administrative fees.
Staying compliant and avoiding penalties
To prevent violations and extra charges:
- Obey all local traffic and parking laws
- Avoid restricted zones, no-parking areas or bus lanes
- Keep an eye on posted speed limits and toll signs
- Always return the car with all tickets cleared or reported
Note: Repeated violations or unpaid fines may affect your Ridee guest rating or result in account review.
