Trip photos & check-in guide

Learn how to take proper trip photos to protect yourself and document vehicle condition

Trip photos protect both guests and hosts by creating a clear record of the vehicle's condition before and after your trip. They help confirm pickup, prevent disputes and ensure smooth resolution of any issues. Taking accurate, time-stamped photos through the Ridee app is quick, easy and essential for every trip.

Why trip photos matter

Trip photos serve as official proof of the vehicle's condition at pickup and return. They help:

  • Confirm you received the correct vehicle
  • Record existing scratches, dents or damage
  • Protect you from being held responsible for pre-existing issues
  • Verify return condition and fuel or charge levels

Note: Only photos uploaded through the Ridee app are accepted as verified evidence in case of a dispute.

Before your trip begins (check-in photos)

At pickup, open your Ridee app → Trip Details → Start Check-in. Then capture:

  • Exterior photos (front, back, both sides and license plate)
  • Interior photos (dashboard, seats and odometer)
  • Fuel gauge or battery level
  • Any existing damage (close-up and wide angle)

Ensure photos are clear, bright and time-stamped in-app. This protects you from post-trip claims.

Tip: If the host is present, walk around the car together to confirm and document any visible issues before driving off.

During your trip

You're not required to take photos mid-trip, but it's smart to do so if:

  • You notice new damage or issues while driving
  • You experience an accident, flat tire or incident
  • You need to record location details for a support claim

Upload these photos under your Trip Messages to keep a verified record.

At the end of your trip (check-out photos)

When returning the car, open Ridee → Trip Details → End Check-out. Then capture the same set of photos as at pickup:

  • Exterior (all angles)
  • Interior (seats, dashboard, odometer)
  • Fuel or charge level
  • Any new damage or marks

These final photos confirm the return condition and timestamp your drop-off.

If you forget to take photos

If you return the vehicle without uploading check-out photos:

  • You may lose protection against damage or cleaning claims
  • Ridee and the host will rely on the host's return photos to assess condition
  • Always aim to complete photo uploads within 15 minutes of pickup or return

Helpful photo tips

To ensure your photos meet Ridee's verification standards:

  • Take pictures in daylight or good lighting
  • Hold your phone steady to avoid blur
  • Avoid filters or edits. Only original photos are accepted
  • Double-check that license plate and fuel/battery levels are clearly visible
